Fitting first Lingerie Sampling
A few years ago I took up knitting and have knitted small things, bunting, crowns, fingerless mittens (literally a rectangle and sewn to leave gaps for the thumb. I once tried a Christmas tiny stocking and also a cardigan, but here lies my problem, I don’t know how to fix problem, when I miss a stitch i don’t know how to fix it, if i take the knitting off the needles to unravel it I don’t know the correct way to put it back on. So, I commit to small projects that if i go wrong I can just unravel it all and it’s not taken too much of my time.
The reason I mention all this is, if you are starting out with lingerie design, maybe you’ve bought a pattern online, made it, through that was the hard part and put it on only to find it doesn’t fit, maybe you’ve drafted your own pattern and have the same scenario, tried to solve it yourself, watched a couple of You Tube videos but none the wiser.
Maybe your launching your own brand, had a sample made, told the factory what was wrong with the fit and they have sent you a new sample but what was right before has been altered as well and you prefer the first smaple but that one isn’t right!
Fear not I’m coming to tell you how to solve all those problems, on 27th November I am hosting a live master class on fitting your first lingeire sample and will show you the methods to alter the pattern (even if you have no plan of doing this yourself, seeing how it’s done will help you write your notes to the factory on how you want it doing. I will also show you the method how to structure a fitting sheet and what to write to the factory.
I will show you common fitting problems and how to solve them.
Below is the image of a first fit satin bra, there are gaps between the straps and body, the neckline is digging into the boobs, the seam across the bust is wrinkling, there isn’t enough support and the breast is lower than the underband, and there is not enough coverage under the arm pit.
On the second fit these problems have been eliminated (though if i were to sample this again I wouldn’t top stitch across the over-bust seam and I would eliminate the wrinkling going across the top cup.
If you can’t make the live class (12.15pm UK time) I send out everything afterwards and welcome questions during or afterwards when you’ve had chance to watch it.
