Do you. It’s your business

2020 has been anything but ordinary, and in a world of uncertainty, what seems the most sensible thing to do is play it safe, work hard and not take any risks, and if in doubt follow what everyone else is doing so you won’t be left behind.

I say *“er errrrrrrrr”

*insert sound of getting answer wrong in a gameshow.

When I stopped writing blogs for September , it seemed that I was surrounded by lots of people doing the exact opposite, everyone seemed to be revving up a gear. I don’t know if this was a by product of the pandemic, but it seemed that as least once a day on social media, someone was advising me to smash by work out, to “hold myself accountable” to get up at 3am to do everything I wanted to do, or something like that.

Here’s the thing I have learnt whilst I have been in business, there are times, which I will be so busy, and my head is down and I get results, then there are times which naturally go slower, or i’ve been working too hard for too long and I need to incorporate a pause somewhere in my business. It’s never always a easy thing to do, as there is always a voice saying ‘but what if?’.

I think you have to realise when you work best, for me that is so it seems to be crazy busy (a bit like when you have to finish all your work before you go on holiday) then slow it down then speed it up.

Weirdly (or not so) when I give myself permission to pause, ideas in other areas of my business ping up. Whilst pausing on my blogs, I’ve designed a new collection for Vanjo, sorted out which direction I want to take the patterns in, and drafted out the first rough draft of an e-course in lingerie design, and started to plan out a brand new look of the website. And non of it felt rushed or that I had to do it. It all felt slow, deliberate and with direction.

The reason I write this is a reminder, you running your business should be your way, and it’s okay to put a pause of parts it. You are not falling behind. You are lining up the rest of your work ready to go again. It’s okay to go down stream in the flow of everything, whilst everyone else is battling to go upstream. Do what works best for you. Don’t just create for the sake of it, do it with passion. Do it for you.

So anyway, this is me, back from the blog break, ready to design and make undies again with no doubt a small one on my lap. Ready to type into the night and fill your minds with knowledge about designing lingerie. The blogs may not always be weekly (a different direction I’m implementing) but fortnightly which gives me more chance to produce more products that will help your become the designer you want to be.
