What's coming up for the year

Over the Christmas break I was able to reflect and draft out in what direction I want to take the company and teaching lingerie design.

So I’ll start with Instagram, on there I will be showing more of the step-by-step process of designing, so including sketching out lingerie, patterns, making the lingerie up, doing spec sheets, tech sheets and grading. So really stripping back each design, showing where I got each fabric from etc. (instagram handle is : vanjonssondesign

From this, I will be able to do blog posts about each design as well.

What about the lingeri-e-course I hear you cry - or maybe you’ve forgotten about it as it was back in 2020 when I began to talk about it, well 2021 was a busy one which was awesome, I was involved with a lingerie label, relaunching it, designing, pattern work, all the technical side and getting it through production and dealing with any problems that arose. So that took all of my free time.

What it gave me the chance to do was ensure that all I written about was current and correct. I used the techniques I wrote about to get the lingerie brand out there, so whilst I was worried about delaying the course, it let me see what worked in the course and what was needing to updated. Now it is just a matter of put my head down to format it all.

If you are new here then I can recommend you start with “How to be a Lingerie Designer” it’s a great starting point as it takes you through an overview of lingerie design but not only is it my advice and experience of being in the industry over twenty years, but I’ve interviewed other lingerie designers that throughout the book explain or give advice in each part of lingerie design. So go grab a notebook and start to make notes on anything you need more knowledge about and begin your journey.

I’m always open for ideas for the blog, so if something is befuddling your brain, let me know and hopefully I can solve it for you.

And if I could offer one bit of advice when starting out, look for inspiration of where you want your lingerie designs to stand, it’s often easy to design a first collection, but harder to produce a second, but by knowing where your brand stands or the style you want to emulate it’s easier not to get side tracked with what everyone is doing.
