Update on the lingeri-e-course
Stop Linger (ie) ing about
For those who don’t know much about the linger-e-course that I intend to launch, the idea came about a few years ago, from noticing a pattern from the questions I received about lingerie design, basically they consisted of four main topics, taking your idea and making it strong enough for a lingerie brand, sourcing the correct fabrics and components, the critical timeline that lingerie goes through to get your concept from idea to final end product and then manufacturing.
I launched the one-to-one session last year where by you can book in with me to talk about any part of lingerie design you need help with and you guessed it, most of you spoke about the four topics above and also about costing your lingerie and drawing, which confirmed to me the need for this course.
A course whereby you can work through everything and come back to it at any time.
Then of course covid hit and suddenly everywhere I looked there was a course about something to do with lingerie, which I obviously took as a sign that there is still an inherent need for information about designing lingerie as people can’t take courses in person yet.
This course was meant to launch in April however with 3 lock downs tucked under my belt there was no way I was able to film sections without a high pitch squeal from a child in the background and like, no-one needs that!!
The extra time and space has meant that this course has gone from four modules to six, I’ve included a drawing module and broken the one of the modules into two to extend the information.
A decision has been made that the course will now open twice a year, with a facebook support group and extra videos given about certain aspects if needs be. This ensures that I can pencil out those times to do nothing else but to answer questions, drink coffee, be present and support you along the way. A facebook group will be set up and then this then gives you life time access to join into discussion and advice each time the course is running.
So this is where we are at - although module names may change etc before it is finalised.
What you get: So this course is split into six modules,
Module one: Ideas and Direction
Exploring taking your idea, working out your USP and setting a firm foundation of what your brand is and what direction you want to take it before you actually design anything.
Module two: Perfecting your Drawing
I will be sharing tips on how to draw your ideas up - especially important if you want to pass on your design to someone to draw a technical drawing for you.
Module three: Sourcing correct fabrics and components
How much should your elastic stretch by? What width bra elastic should I use and does it matter if I use bigger rings than intended. All this will be gone into great detail.
Module four: Critical timeline.
You will shown the timeline that it takes to get your lingerie from idea to final garment. Two timelines will be present, one for those who wish the lingerie themselves and one for people who choose to take the factory route.
Module five: Manufacturing
If you are undecided to manufacture yourself or use a factory to take a look at advantages and disadvantage of both , you will shown the two main routes you can take when using a manufacturer. You will be shown an example of a manufacturing agreement and how to execute a garment order. Also advice will be given of how to find a factory.
Module Six: Costing lingerie & selling
You will be shown how to cost your lingerie, the three ways to price your lingerie, a look into how I price my designs. Working out mark-ups, margins and gross profit. Also a look at finding shops to stock your lingerie in and what you need when approaching a shop.
Each module will have its own work booklet so you can work through the course.
Price of the course will come out nearer the time. Gotta re-read my module on costing yet!
If you wish to begin your lingerie design journey before the course, then check out “how to be a lingerie designer” it’s a great introduction to lingerie design.
