How to find the high bust point on your underwire bra

The highest bust point is the part of your bust that sticks out the furthest from your chest wall, often found at the nipple but not always depending on your breast shape.

Whilst it’s easy to locate on the body, (literally put a tape measure around your boobs, around the highest part and where the tape measure hits that is your highest bust point). it’s not always to find on your bra. Why would you need to?

Well the highest bust point is where all the breast tissue is directed to, this gives you the shape of your boobs. If you’ve designed and made a bra and the highest bust point is in the wrong location then fitting the bra will be hard, as there will be flat points or wrinkles on the bra as the bra tries to fight your boobs into shapes that aren’t for them.

Similarly if you’ve bought a bra and it’s not quite fitting right knowing where the highest bust point is and where yours is, to see if it matches can save you the trouble of wondering if you bra fits or not.

Another example would be if you have to write a spec sheet and need the measurements going over the highest bust point or to the highest bust point.

When locating the highest bust point on a bra, when I’ve found it I often put a sticker on outside of the bra then when trying the bra on for fits, I know exactly where the highest bust point is.

So how do you find it?

If you’re bra is darted it should be at the end of the dart, or at most 5-10mm above the dart, if you have a vertical seam bra, or horizontal seam on your bra then highest bust point will be along this line - so it’s mega useful to know when doing pattern if you have hit this.

But if you have a moulded cup or seams higher or lower than the highest bust point, don’t worry the way to find it is exactly the same.

Lay the bra down and with your finger inside the cup starting at the bottom where the wire casing is, you are going to direct your finger slowly upwards. What will happen is that your finger will travel along the fabric and when it reaches the highest bust point the bra will lift off the table, because your finger naturally travels to the part of the bra that extends the furthest out and then can’t go any further so you lift the bra off the table.

Below is a video of me trying it on three different bras, I’ve shown you on three different styles and brands to show you it works on different bras.
