Simple quick way on how to find correct tension for your bobbin

Oh bobby, bobby, bobby.

Sewing when everything is right is a dream, sewing when a tension goes wrong, is a nightmare especially if you don’t know where to start to fix it.

If you have threads bundling up together underneath (usually when you start) or can see the thread from the bottom appear on the top or vice versa, your thread tension is wrong.

The needle tension is an easy one to fix as it’s a dial and most sewing machines have a recommended tension that is shown on the machine.

There is also an easy way to sort the tension for the bobbin. To check if it’s right take it out and hold it like a yoyo then flick your hand down, the bobbin should do down and the catch itself and stop, THIS IS THE RIGHT TENSION.

If you flick the bobbin down and it doesn’t move, it’s too tight (there is a little screw on the bobbin that you can tighten and un-tighten).

If you flick the bobbin down and it keeps going (or you may not even get the chance to flick it down, holding the thread it may just fall) the tension is too loose and you need to tighten the bobbin case.

And you remember the phrase as kids right for which way to go to tighten or loosen something?

Tighty Righty, Lefty Loosey. See below to see what I mean.
