Van Journal: Xmas disco range

I’m a lover for those twinkle lights that appear everywhere at Xmas, anything that brings in the light I am here for. So it came no surprise to me when I was drafting out the ‘Xmas Disco’ range that my mood board was full of shiny things.

Everybody designs differently but I have a starting point of rough sketches, a mood board and then draft out three collections that sit together. Often I omit a collection and this has been no exception, if it’s not strong enough to stand by itself. It. Is. Out.

My main source of inspiration has been my disco ball that I have in my window, and now the sun is low, it hits it and the room is full of light and I though that is what I want my Xmas collection to portray.

Working with the shapes that I already have got, I went on the hunt for sequin fabrics and echoes of red and silver.

I found a silver embroidered tulle by Forster Rohner one of my favourite lace makers, black sequin fabric and when the bra and brief were made everything (apart from the strap detail I played around with colours, finally settling for red straps for the sequin bra and silver straps for the silver bra) was has how I had drafted it.

I stuck with the Finley bra shape, I had taken orders on the sets at the start of Summer and got great feedback from this shape which allowed me to drop in new designs so I wasn’t backstage drafting out a new pattern doing fits and making samples.

Regarding the sequin bra all I had to make sure of, was that where the body bent, the sequins didn’t touch the body so didn’t rub , eg the curve of the leg and the underband.

This is only a short order run so if you would like to enquire about either of them please do get in touch.
